Central Bank of Australia attacked by Unknown hackers
Australian Newspapers
and television channels reported today that Australian central bank of reserve
has been attacked again and again by some anonymous hackers and data had been
lost. On the other hand, Australian Central Bank officials told to the press
that Bank was attacked with a cyber attack but not data is theft and none of
our system is affected.
Australian newspapers
published report about this cyber attack that, the bank is continuously attacked
since November 16, 17 to present. Several times Banks computers and systems are
hacked and compromised. It might be possible that secret data has been theft
from bank’s system. Report says that, Bank was attacked with a malware of
malicious software/application attached with an e-mail sent to various members
of bank from lower management to middle.
This report was
published today on 11 March 2013. Report told that bank is attacked several
times and hackers got success many times in bypassing banks official database.
Australian Central Bank
in response to the report published in newspapers today told that, Central Bank
has its own widespread security measures operational that has made inaccessible
these cyber attacks. Our security system is strict and it captured the virus spreading
in our system. In short, bank strongly denied that any of its system
compromised in recent attacks or any kind of data theft.
In today’s world of
information technology, it’s common to attack a government of business websites
in any country of the world by some hackers. Many of the countries are blaming
that Chinese hackers are behind those attacks but on the other hand China
strongly denied this and said that it might be possible that US hackers are
doing so.
Australian Central Bank
told in a press release today that, the bank has contacted Australian security agencies
and Defense officials to make sure the security of its computers and softwares
from any possible cyber attacks.
According to the
report, this cyber attack was initiated with sending an email with the subject
as “Strategic Planning Financial year 2012” and was sent to its lower
management to the middle management. Report told that email was sent to many of
its staff members but, only 6 of them were affected with it by opening the file
which was a compressed file containing a malware of virus. The e mail was sent
from anonymous account but was supposed to come from a senior official.
Report further stated
the red alarm that it might be possible that Australian Central Bank’s assets and
secret information system database patched by hackers and information could be
lost.
After the recent
attack, Central bank of Australia had taken this as a serious issue and had
provided its staff members updated antivirus program that could automatically block
those e-mails and web links that might be equipped with malware, virus or
worms.
